You're in for a treat if you're in
Carmel Valley and wondering what's new in town.
What's new is the Cowgirl Winery.
It features the two Georis Cowgirl wines--one red and one white. You can find it on the Paloma property
which has been the venue for many a Georis wine club party. The barn itself has been renovated and is
classy. Large burlap lamp shades hang
from the tall ceiling, a large American flag is a prominent feature on the wood
rafters and there are lots of cowboy/girl things to buy--books, handbags, vests,
jewelry, wine glasses, and, of course, wine.
We do like the Cowgirl wines. The 2011 Cowgirl White, created by the vintner
Damien Georis, is a blend of Chardonnays of Monterey County. It has a nice floral nose, a somewhat tart
finish, and is very pleasant. It costs $24. The 2010 Cowgirl Red is a "fruit
forward" Cabernet Sauvignon that feels lighter than
most Cabernets (LC likes that). It, too,
is a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignons from Monterey County and costs
$28. A flight of both the red and white
costs $6 and one can also order either wine by the glass.
When the weather is warm, wine tasters
can sit outside and overlook the vineyard, olive trees and the Carmel Valley
hills beyond. There are chickens nearby,
too, just to complete the barnyard feel.
And if you'd like to be a part of the decor, bring in your old cowgirl
boots and get a bottle of wine in trade.
The
winery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30-5. (831 298-7030). Located at 25 Pilot Road in Carmel Valley, Cowgirl
Winery is sure to be a hit with locals and visitors. The ambiance is fun, hip, and the wines are
approachable and sassy. We'll keep you
posted as to its official grand opening.
Giddy Up!
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
See you in the New Year!
